Train’r
Collaborative academic project
Connecting clients with personal trainers through a simpler discovery and booking experience.

(01)
Overview
Train’r is a website concept that connects freelance personal trainers with clients seeking flexible, personalized fitness services. Designed initially for Toronto and Chicago, the platform brings trainer discovery, scheduling, payment, and communication into one experience, supporting both in-person and remote training.

My Role
UX/UI Designer and Researcher
I collaborated on audience definition, client and trainer personas, early interface sketches, and the usability testing plan. My contributions focused on understanding the needs of both audiences and helping shape an intuitive discovery and booking experience.
(03)
The Challenge
Clients need to find trainers who match their goals, availability, and preferred training format. Freelance trainers need a convenient way to promote their services and connect with new clients. The challenge was to support both audiences while keeping navigation clear and the booking process easy to follow.
(04)
Process
Understanding both audiences
Collaboratively defined client and trainer needs through audience profiles and personas. These highlighted flexible scheduling for busy clients and greater visibility for independent trainers.
Structuring the experience
Organized the website through information architecture and collaborative sketches, mapping how users would discover trainers, review services, and book sessions.
Planning usability testing
Helped develop a task-based testing plan focused on booking a session, from discovery and trainer selection through availability, payment, and confirmation.
Refining through feedback
The project’s documented testing with three participants identified confusing navigation, limited onboarding information, unnecessary booking steps, and unclear calendar views. These findings informed revisions to the prototype.
(05)
Key Decisions
Simplify navigation
Reduced competing links so users can find core actions more easily.
Clarify the platform
Added FAQs and clearer explanations to help clients and trainers understand what Train’r offers.
Show booking progress
Introduced a progress indicator so users know where they are in the booking flow.
Remove redundant steps
Eliminated a search-like pop-up that repeated information and made booking more confusing.
Improve scheduling clarity
Designed prototype calendar synchronization options and clearer client and trainer availability views to support scheduling.

Final Work
The resulting prototype brings trainer discovery, service details, availability selection, payment screens, and booking confirmation into a connected experience. Revisions addressed the navigation and booking issues identified during testing, creating a clearer foundation for clients and freelance trainers.
Calendar synchronization and payments are shown as prototype features. As a collaborative academic project, the outcome is presented as a refined prototype rather than a launched product.
